In its quarterly conference call with investors on Thursday, Louisville-based Churchill Downs Inc. announced that its joint venture with Delaware North Cos. to construct a racino near Lebanon, Ohio, has gotten its final approvals.
The project “is now fully approved by the racing commission and the Ohio Lottery,” Churchill Chief Financial Officer Bill Mudd said. The Ohio State Racing Commission and Churchill’s joint venture had been in a dispute over how much seating the harness track should have.
In its quarterly report, Churchill said construction began in December, on a 120-acre Monroe, Ohio, site, and the racino is expected to open early next year.
The five-furlong track is set to have a 186,000-square-foot slots parlor with about 1,600 video lottery terminals.
